Xueyan Wang is a Brooklyn-based 2D animator and currently an MFA candidate in animation. With an emphasis on musical cinema and filmic fine arts, Xueyan works with analogue materials, primarily charcoal powder, ink pen, and clay. 
Originally from Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, Xueyan was trained in the Chinese classic arts for many years. They studied Chinese ink wash since the age of 6 with painter Yancheng Wu (吴彦成), currently the Vice President of China National Academy of Painting and Calligraphy. Xueyan was then trained for 7 years in the classical still life drawing and painting with Shenfa Huang(黄申发), a professor at Xi`an Academy of Fine Arts, China.
In their recent works, Xueyan seeks to incorporate their trainings in the classic art into the filmic medium, while developing an aesthetics involving reductionistic line work and impressionistic musical cinema.
